10 Hot Hot Highlights From the 2016 XBIZ Awards

Not everyone embraces porn, but many of us like peeking at it.

While the rest of the world was buzzing over Oscar nominees and snubs, the adult entertainment industry was locked in its own award show anxieties at the 2016 XBIZ Awards held Friday night in downtown L.A.

In a tucked away corner of the J.W. Marriott, porn stars, starlets, and behind-the-sceners vied for a wide range of honors, including Best Actress, Best Male Sex Toy, and Best Music. (Hustler’s This Ain’t the Golden Girls XXX was nominated for the latter. Sadly, it lost to the apparently euphonious Wanted from Wicked Pictures)

Besides red carpet sightings of buttock flash here and there, and the usual on-stage “wink wink” innuendos, the crowd was surprisingly clothed and demure, as in no public fornication.

Limited luridness notwithstanding, there were still moments worth ogling:

1. Stoya hosted the Awards—reluctantly.

“I wish I could get out of hosting XBIZ,” the adult film star tweeted just two days before the show. In the same 140-character breath, she announced she would not be attending the AVN Awards next week, and that she pulled out of her latest porn venture, TrenchcoatX.

The show went on. Stoya opened the evening on an uneasy note: “Before we get started, I’d like to say a few words from my heart.” A beat. “But really, I’d prefer not to. It doesn’t go over very well when I speak from my heart. Now with that out of the way, please help me welcome our first presenters.”

Stoya's intro was an undoubted pitch-black reference to accusations she made in late November that ex-boyfriend James Deen raped her. Deen denies the allegations.

2. James Deen attended in good spirits.

Porn’s one-time golden boy and Hollywood dabbler (Paul Schrader’s The Canyons) attended with girlfriend and fellow porn performer Chanel Preston. He declined an interview, and jokingly confessed to turning off all the LED lights at his table to minimize attention. He waxed comedic and spoke in length about his love for Kanye West, prompting an apology: “Sorry, I just talked about Kanye West.”

3. Adult film legend Nina Hartley proved female porn stars don’t have an "expiration date."

Hartley, 56, looked stunning as ever. Not there just to preside as an icon, she was nominated for two awards(!): Best MILF Performer and Best Supporting Actress, proving there’s room for some “maturity” in an industry dominated by barely legals.

4. Ron Jeremy was Ron Jeremy.

No porn soiree is complete without “The Hedgehog.” Jeremy presented the first award of the evening in his high ham-it-up style. He quipped, “[The XBIZ Awards producers] were smart to put me on first because I can go back to the buffet. And…because I can go back to the buffet.”

5. Kendra “Library Girl” Sunderland took home Web Star of the Year.

Sunderland earned her “Library Girl” moniker last year when she filmed a masturbation video in the Oregon State University library. The video went viral, and Sunderland became an overnight camgirl sensation. Her transition from student to (accidental) porn star was made complete with Friday’s adult industry award win.

6. Random hot-and-heavy girl/girl hallway makeouts.

These semi-clothed hallway makeouts erupted periodically throughout the night. Who doesn’t love a hot semi-clothed hallway makeout?

7. Porn star Carter Cruise’s awesome jacket.

Badass af.

8. There was a Gatsby Gala going on around the corner.

Men and women decked out in flapper garb and top hats gawked at the Awards as they headed to an adjacent ‘20s-themed shindig. This dame’s curiosity drew her closer. She walked up and down the XBIZ Awards lobby looking for…Gatsby?

9. These hot young alt starlets.

I don’t know who these girls are, but I like their edge! The future of porn is in good hands.

10. This dog diva.

If it was up to me, this porno pooch would have won all the awards. (He’s being walked by porn star and director Luc Wylder.)
