Old NBA Guy Bill Walton Caught on Tape With Sensible Weed Opinions
Basketball star from the past shares views on weed's future.
Bill Walton is a tall, tall man, but he used to be even bigger. There was a time, back when he was playing center on NBA championship runs for the Portland Trailblazers and the Boston Celtics and even before then winning national NCAA titles with the UCLA Bruins, back in the dark ages of black-and-white TV, that Bill Walton could make the news with his political views.
And guess what? Those days are back.
ESPN returned early from a commercial break Monday, during the College Football National Championship Game. Cameras cut live to an “ESPN Voices” pre-roll, catching Walton—for some reason dressed in an Uncle Sam suit—stating a pair of obvious truths:
"Marijuana should not be a Schedule 1 drug. And all the people who have been in trouble for it for all these years? Obama should just—blanket amnesty—and let's move on to the future."
Up until a few months ago, it looked like we were headed in that direction. Please hold.
