Twenty After: Paul Gauguin, 'Rupe Rupe'
Paul Gauguin: Deadbeat dad? Or post impressionistic father figure?
It's too bad that Paul Gauguin died before French Post Impressionism paintings started selling for enough cash to buy the artist his own Polynesian island.
Paul Gauguin ditched his family and ran off to a tropical paradise to pursue his dreams. Some people revile the wandering Frenchman for these actions, but that same shucking of smothering responsibilities has made Gauguin a hero to generations of temperamental artist types. Well, the shucking along with his massive and amazing complete body of work.
