Netflix Got Into The Weed Biz For One Weekend Only

Guess which show inspired Banana Stand Kush.

On the off chance you weren’t already a Netflix fan, the streaming service temporarily catered to weed enthusiasts over the weekend with a custom line of cannabis strains inspired by its most popular shows. Dubbed “The Netflix Collection,” Netflix showed off its 10 different boutique strains at pop-up show hosted in partnership with L.A.’s Alternative Herbal Health Services.

And while the idea of an Arrested Development strain probably sounds a little gimmicky on its surface, it seems Netflix really thought this thing through. The company said in a statement, “Each strain was cultivated with the specific shows in mind, designed to complement each title based on their tone. For example, sillier shows may be more indica dominant, while dramedies will be more sativa dominant to help the more powerful scenes resonate.”

Personally, I’d love to try the indica-heavy Camp Firewood and Banana Stand Kush strains, inspired by Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later and Arrested Development, respectively. Though Grace and Frankie’s energetic sativa hybrid, Peyotea 73, sounds pretty dope, too.

At the heart of this weedy, TV love fest is Netflix’s new original sitcom, Disjointed, which features Kathy Bates as a loud-and-proud dispensary owner. Three of the 10 strains were dedicated specifically to the new show, which premiered August 25. Knowing that information, it shouldn’t come as a surprise Netflix went all out promotion-wise. Thanks to federal laws, Netflix won’t actually profit from the weekend’s weed sales, but if their ability to land Kathy Bates is any indication, they’re probably doing just fine without that green.
